WHAT IS A LOADBANK TEST FOR A GENERATOR AND UPS?
A loadbank test puts a calibrated load onto a generator or uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The load can be varied, to test the performance of the generator or UPS at various loads.
The load bank measures the reliability of the generator and UPS, to ensure its operating at full capacity.
Generators and UPS systems systems often stay idle for long periods of time, this is often referred to as ‘being in standby’. A loadbank test ensures the equipment can maintain optimum performance when it’s needed, resulting in no loss of downtime.
GENERATOR AND UPS LOADBANK TESTING SERVICES
How often should you load test a generator and UPS?
For standby or idle generators, we recommend a load test is performed at least once a year, which can be factored into your service contract.
For prime running generators, we recommend the load bank test is done more frequently, to ensure the generator is running at optimal load.
How do you load bank test a generator and UPS?
A electrical load bank is used to produce an artificial electrical load, which is connected to the output point on generator or UPS.
The UPS and generator is started, the load is gradually increased until the full load is reached. All the perimeters are recorded, such as temperature, load, voltage, frequency and pressures.
There are various brands of loadbanks available, from brands such as Crestchic, which is recommended by CPS.
